The Spanish stock exchange traded €91.4 billion in October, up 30%

The highest monthly trading volume since July 2011

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in October reached €91.4 billion, up 30% from the same period a year earlier. The figure was the highest for the last 27 months. In the first ten months of the year the effective trading volume totaled €575.8 billion, down 3.9% from the same period in 2012.

The number of trades in October hit a monthly record high, reaching 6.36 million, up 133% from the same period last year. The number of trades in the first ten months came in at 39.5 million, up 9% from the same period in 2012.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of October came in at €3.3 billion, up 40.2% year on year. The trading volume in this segment in October came in at €889 million, up 380% from October 2012 and up 154% from September 2013.

The number of ETF trades in the first ten months of the year totaled 54,515, up 11.2% year on year. The number of trades in October reached 7,637, up 109% from the same month in 2012 and up 35.5% from September 2013.

Futures and Options

In October trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 5.57 million contracts, the second best figure so far this year and up 20% from the same month in 2012.

By product, it is worth mentioning the Options segment, which reported its highest trading volumes so far this year. Trading in Options on Stocks came in at 3.4 million contracts, 92% higher year on year, while the trading volume in Options on Indices reached 541,454 contracts, up 18% from a year earlier.

Warrants and Certificates

The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading in 2013 totaled 6,896.

Trading on this market in the first ten months totaled €654.8 million, down 4.5% from the same period in 2012. The trading volume in October came in at €68 million, up 32% from October 2012 and up 29.9% from September 2013.

The number of trades in the first ten months in this market totaled 154,794, down 12.6% year on year. The number of trades in October reached 15,950, up 12.9% from October 2012 and up 23% from September 2013.

Fixed Income

Trading on BME’s Corporate Debt market in October reached €112.4 billion, up 91% from the previous month. The trading volume for the first ten months totaled €1.1 trillion, down 48.5% from the same period in 2012.

Trading on SEND in October increased 58.3% year on year to €256 million on 14,211 trades, triple the amount posted in October 2012.

In October trading in Public Debt on SENAF, BME’s wholesale trading platform, reached €10.7 billion, more than triple the amount recorded in the same period in 2012. To the end of October trading in this segment totaled €51.9 billion, up 43.1% from the same period last year.
