THE SPANISH STOCK EXCHANGE TRADED

€67 BILLION IN NOVEMBER, UP 59% YEAR ON YEAR

  • The number of trades in November was 4.79 million, up 114% on November 2012
  • In the first 11 months the trading volume totaled €643.3 billion, up 0.24% year on year
  • Trading in Derivatives in November amounted to 4.66 million contracts, up 45% from November 2012, with a record high in Index Futures
  • Trading on the Corporate Debt platform SEND to the end of November increased twofold, to €2.4 billion

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in November reached €67 billion, up 59% from the same period a year earlier.  In the first 11 months of the year the trading volume totaled 643.3 billion, up 0.24% from the same period in 2012.

The number of trades to the end of November totaled 44.3 million, up 15.1% from the same period last year. The number of trades in November came in at  4.79 million, up 114% from November 2012.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of November came in at €3.8 billion, up 51.9% year on year. The trading volume in this segment in November came in at €483.5 million, up 264% from November 2012.

The number of ETF trades in the first eleven months of the year totaled 59,607, up 14.2% year on year. The number of trades in November reached 5,092, up 62.4% from the same month in 2012.

Futures and Options

In November trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 4.6 million contracts, up 45% from the same period a year ago.

By segment, it is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Index Futures, which in November reported its highest trading volume so far this year, at 735,668 contracts, up 80% year on year. The figure was 1.7% higher than the trading volume recorded so far this year. Activity in Futures on Stocks and Options on Stocks exceed the monthly trading volume for November last year, at 1.08 and 2.43 million contracts respectively, with increases of 116% and 31%.

Warrants and Certificates

The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading in 2013 totaled 7,828.

Trading on this market in the first eleven months totaled €709.3 million, down 3.6% from the same period in 2012. The trading volume in November came in at €54.5 million, up 8.3% from the same month in 2012.

The number of trades in the first eleven months in this market totaled 167,528, down 12.1% year on year. The number of trades in November reached 12,734, down 6.8% from November 2012.

Fixed Income

Trading on BME’s Corporate Debt market in November reached €49.4 billion, down 71% year on year.  However, trading to maturity increased 14% year on year. The trading volume for the first eleven months totaled €1.1 trillion, down 50% from the same period in 2012.

Trading on SEND in November increased 54.4% year on year to €309 million. The trading volume to the end of November totaled €2.4 billion, double the amount reported for the same period in 2012.

In November trading in Public Debt on SENAF, BME’s wholesale trading platform, reached €6.5 billion, more than double the amount recorded in the same period in 2012. To the end of November trading in this segment totaled €58.5 billion, up 51% from the same period last year.
