The Spanish Stock Exchange traded €50.9 bn in February, up 20% year on year

Fifth consecutive month of growth in trading volumes

  • The equity trading volume for the first two months grows 14.2%
  • The number of trades to February was up 85% year on year
  • ETF trading volume in February increases three-fold from the same period in 2013
  • Derivatives trading in February was 4.6 million contracts, up 30.2% from the same month in 2013
  • Corporate Debt trading reached €143.8 billion in February, up 45% year on year.

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in February was €50.9 billion, up 20.1% year on year, representing the fifth consecutive month of growth. The figure for the first two months totaled €125.8 billion, up 14.2% from the same period a year earlier.

The number of trades in February reached 5.3 million, up 50.3% from the same month a year earlier and totaled 12.5 million for the first two months of the year, up 85% year on year.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in February came in at €900.4 million, up 202% from the same month a year earlier while in the first two months of the year it totaled €1.9 billion, up 250% from the same period in 2013.

The number of ETF trades in February reached 6,962, 18.2% higher than in February 2013. The figure for the first two months totaled 19,767 trades, up 100% year on year.

As for the Warrants and Certificates segment, the trading volume in February was €133.3 million, down 3.2% from the same month in 2013. In February, the trading volume in this segment was €57.9 million.

Futures and Options

In February trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 4.6 million contracts, up 30.2% from the same month a year earlier.

By segment, it is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Stock Futures, at 1.9 million contracts, more than triple (266%) the amount registered in February 2013, and Index Options, with 553,093 contracts traded, up 14.7% from the same period a year earlier.

Corporate Debt

The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in February came in at €143.8 billion, up 45% year on year. The number of trades grew 21.8% from February last year to 25,369.

The trading volume on the SEND electronic trading platform reached €296 million, up 93% from February 2013. The number of trades grew by 96.6% to 17,154.

In February trading on BME’s Public Debt wholesale electronic platform, SENAF, reached €10.4 billion, three times as much (203.8%) as the amount recorded in the same month last year and the number of trades was up 109.2% from a year earlier, at 1,475.
