The trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange grew 27% in June to €74.2 bn.

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in the first six months was €415.6 billion, up 27.3% year on year. The trading volume in June reached €74.2 billion, up 27% from the same period a year earlier.

The number of trades to June reached 33.7 million, up 63% from the same period a year earlier. The number of trades in June came in at 5.06 million, up 47% year-on-year.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to June came in at €4.5 billion, up 202% from the same period a year earlier. In June the trading volume in this segment was €562.9 million, up 102.9% from June 2013. The number of ETFs trades to the end of June totaled 50,472, which is 62% higher than last year’s. In June the number of trades was 7,624, up 29% from June last year.

The number of Warrants and Certificates admitted to trading in 2014 stands at 4,582. The trading volume so far this year was €425 million, up 4.2% from the same month in 2013. In June, the trading volume in this segment was €60.6 million, down 13.7% from the same period in 2013.

Futures and Options

The trading volume in June in the Derivatives market came in at 5.7 million contracts, down 9.1% year-on-year. From January to June the trading volume totaled 29.4 million contracts, 11.3% higher than in the same period last year.

It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Index Options in June, which grew 59% to 833,105 contracts. In the first six months there was growth in practically all products, with significant increases in activity in Index Options, which rose 54.3% to 3.7 million contracts and Index Futures, which increased 22.5% to 4.5 million contracts.

Corporate Debt

The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in June reached €101.9 billion, up 24% year on year and from January to June it totaled €731.1 billion, down 3.25% year-on-year.

The Public Debt traded by retail investors on the SEND platform in June reached €35 million, more than three times as high as in June 2013 (266.5%) and the trading volume for the first half of the year totaled €1.6 billion, up 14.67% year on year.

In June trading on BME’s Public Debt wholesale electronic platform, SENAF, reached €10.8 billion, more than double the amount posted in the same month in 2013 (121%) and from January to June it totaled €58.1 billion, also amply doubling the amount reported for the first half of 2013 (116%).
