The Spanish stock Exchange traded €88.1 bn. in June, up 17% year on year

The best month of June in 7 years

  • The equity trading volume to the end of June was up 25%
  • In June the ETF trading volume was 89% higher than in the same month in 2014, at €1 billion
  • The trading volume in the Warrants and Certificates market to the end of June was up 51% year-on-year
  • The trading volume in the Derivatives market in June remained stable compared to last year
  • Corporate Debt issues admitted to trading in the first six months grew although trading was down 54.9% during the same period, at €329.7 billion

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in the first six months of the year reached €521.6 billion, up 25% year on year. The trading volume in June came in at €88.1 billion, up 17% from the same period a year earlier.

The number of trades in June reached 5.4 million, up 6.9% from the same month a year earlier, while accumulated trades to the end of June reached 33.2 million, down 1.6% year on year.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in the first six months of 2015 in this segment totaled €6.4 billion, up 40% from a year earlier. The trading volume in June came in at €1 billion, up 89% from the same month a year earlier.

The number of ETF trades to the end of June totaled 86,425, up 71% from a year earlier. In June the number of trades reached 17,226, 126% higher than in June 2014, a monthly record high in this market segment.

The number of Warrants and Certificates admitted to trading to the end of June totaled 4,261.

The trading volume on this market in the first six months of 2015 reached €640 million, up 51% year-on-year. The trading volume in June in this market reached €106 million, up 75% from June 2014.

The number of trades on this market in the first six months totalled 131,817, up 42% year on year. In June the number of trades reached 22,660, 63% higher than in June 2014.

Futures and Options

The trading volume in June in this market reached 5.7 million contracts, similar to that for June 2014. 

It is worth mentioning again the heavy trading in Index Futures in June, with 728,794 IBEX35 Futures and 366,575 IBEX Mini Futures traded, up 40% and 89.5% respectively year on year. Trading in IBEX 35 Options was down 21.2% from the same month a year earlier.

The open interest on IBEX 35 Futures at the end of June was 98,518 contracts, up 17.6% year-on-year and 13,579 contracts on IBEX Mini Futures, up 20.4%.

As for Stock Derivatives, trading reached 1,688,825 Stock Futures contracts and 2,221,334 Stock Options, down 7.8% and 3.4% respectively year on year. The open interest at the end of June was 1,019,329 contracts on Stock Futures and 8,674,664 on Stock Options, up 39.6% and 2.7% respectively year on year. 

Trading in Fixed Income continued growing in June. In the first six months it totaled 6,196 contracts on the Bono 10 Futures contract, up 164% year-on-year. 

Corporate Debt

The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in the first six months of the year was 54.9% down from the same period in 2014, at €329.7 billion. The trading volume recorded in June was €47.2 billion.

The volume of new issues traded on this market in the first six months totalled €86.5 billion, up 50% year-on-year.

The trading volume on the SEND electronic trading platform to the end of June reached €590 million, down 64.3% year on year while Public Debt trading during the period reached €207 million, up 53.9% from a year earlier.
