The Spanish stock market traded €824.2 bn. to October, up 16.3% year on year

  • The equity trading volume in October reached €79.7 billion
  • Trading volume in ETFs to October increased 34.5% to over €10.8 billion
  • The trading volume in the  Warrants and Certificates market in the first ten months was up 39.4%
  • Trading volume in IBEX 35 Futures and IBEX Mini Futures to October were up 8,3% and 9,3%, respectively year on year
  • New issues on the Corporate Debt market in October were up 181,5%, at €8.1 billion, double the amount registered last year

Equities 

The equity trading on the Spanish Stock Market in the first ten months of the year came in at €824.2 billion, up 16.3% higher than in the same period a year earlier. The trading volume in October was €79.7 billion, down 16.6% from October 2014, which marked a record high in terms of trading volume and number of trades due to the volatility at that time.

The number of trades to the end of October reached 53.1 million, down 9.5% from the same month 2014. In October the number of trades reached 5.2 million, down 39.4% from the same month a year earlier. 

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in the first ten months of the year totalled €10.8 billion, up 34.5% from the same period a year earlier. The trading volume recorded in October in this segment came in at €866 million, down 14.4% year on year. The number of ETF trades in the first ten months of the year totaled 147,106 up 58.2% from those registered in the first ten months of 2014. The number of trades in October reached 13,039, down 21% from the same month a year earlier. 

The trading volume on the Warrants and Certificates market in the first ten months of the year reached €961.7 million, up 39.4% year-on-year. The trading volume in this market in October reached €73.6 million, down 6.4% from October 2014. The number of trades to the end of October in this market totaled 200,378, up 27.7% from a year earlier. In October 16,036 trades were executed, down 24.9% year on year.

Futures and Options

The total trading volume in the Derivatives market in October reached 2.9 million contracts, down 42% from a year earlier. The lower activity levels seen in October this year add to the fact that October last year was exceptionally good in terms of trading volume, reaching record highs in terms of trading and orders handled.

In October 571,798 IBEX 35 Futures and IBEX Mini Futures were traded, down 30.9% and 49% respectively. To the end of October, the volume of IBEX 35 Futures was up 8.3% and that of IBEX Mini Futures increased 9.3%.

Trading in Options on Stocks also decreased in October, with 1.6 million contracts traded, down 35.1% year on year.

The open interest on IBEX 35 Futures at the end of October was 96,737 contracts, up 16.1% year-on-year.

Fixed Income

The total of new issues traded on Corporate Debt in October reached €48.6 billion, down 16.4% year-on-year. In the period from January to October the number of new issues reached €460.5 billion, down 53.6% from the same period a year earlier.

The trading volume in this market in October came in at €8.1 billion, which is double (+181,5%), the amount registered last year while from January to October it totaled €123.6 billion, up 51.8% year on year.

The trading volume on the SED electronic platform in October came in at €66.6 million and €823.2 million for the ten-month period, down 59.7% year on year, while to the end of October Public Debt trading totalled €259.1 million.
