The Spanish Stock Exchange traded €78 billion in April, up 24.5% from March

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in April came in at €78 billion, up 24.5% from March and down 12% from the same month in 2015. The trading volume to the end of April totaled €275.4 billion, down 21% from the same period in 2015.

The number of trades in the first four months of the year reached 20.2 million, down 14% from the same period the previous year. The number of trades in April reached 4.6 million, down 20% from a year earlier.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of April came in at €2.7 billion, down 37% from the same period a year earlier. The ETF trading volume in April in this segment came in at €511.5 million, down 59% from the same period a year earlier.

The trading volume on the Warrants and Certificates market to the end of April reached €264.1 million, down 40% year-on-year.  In April, the trading volume reached €50.5 million, down 52% from the same month in 2015. The number of issues admitted to trading in the first four months of the year totaled €2.2 billion.

Futures and Options

In April the trading volume in the Derivatives market increased 1.4% from April last year to 3 million contracts.

In the first four months of the year there was heavy trading in the main contracts, that is, Index Futures, which reported a slight increase in activity. There were 2.5 million contracts traded in IBEX 35 Futures and 1.1 million in Mini IBEX Futures, with respective increases of 0.5% and 1.6% year-on-year.

In April trading in Stocks Derivatives increased compared to the previous year. There were 632,017 contracts traded in Stock Futures, up 86.8% year-on-year. Although trading in Stock Options has decreased 7.6% to 1.3 million contracts, trading in Stock Derivatives came in at 2 million contracts, up 10.4% from April last year.

Corporate Debt

The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in April came in at €11.5 billion, while in the first four months of the year it totaled €69.8 billion, down 68.9% year-on-year.

The volume of new issues on MARF was €219 million in April. In the first four months new issues totaled €702 million, more than 7 times as high as last year.

The trading volume on the SEND electronic trading platform in April was €70 million, up 5.3% from the same month in 2015 while to the end of April it totaled €264 million.

In April trading on BME’s Public Debt wholesale electronic platform, SENAF, reached €18.5 billion, more than double the amount reported for the same period last year while in the first four months of the year the trading volume totaled €52 billion, 48.3% higher than in the same period last year.
