The Spanish stock exchange traded €50 billion in July

 Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in July came in at €50 billion, down 24.1% from the previous month and down 48.4% from the same month in 2015. The trading volume in the first seven months of 2016 totalled €439.8 billion, down 29% year-on-year, in line with the prevailing trend of low trading volumes affecting European stock markets.

The number of trades to the end of July reached 34.5 million, down 10.3% from the same period a year earlier. The number of trades in July reached 4.4 million, down 17.2% from the same month the previous year. It is worth stressing that the spread on Spanish stocks in July followed a favourable trend, leaving an average spread on the IBEX35 of around 6 basis points and thus strengthening the market.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of July totalled €4.1 billion, down 49.8% year-on-year. The ETF trading volume in July in this segment was €368.3 million, down 79.2% from the same period a year earlier.

The number of ETF trades to the end of July totaled 102,081, down 2.7% year-on-year. The number of trades in July reached 10,862, down 41.3% from the same period a year earlier.

The trading volume on the Warrants and Certificates market to the end of July reached €449 million, down 38.7% year-on-year.  In July the trading volume reached €54.5 million. The number of trades in the first seven months of the year in this market totaled 106,987, down 29.5% year-on-year, of which 12,049 correspond to July.

 Futures and Options

To the end of July 25.6 million contracts were traded on the Derivatives market, down 9.3% from the same period in 2015.

In the first seven months of the year 4.2 million IBEX 35 Futures and 1.7 million Mini IBEX Futures were traded, with respective decreases of 3.9% and 11.3% year-on-year.

The open position on Stock Options increased 0.3% compared to July 2015. The trading volume in the first seven months of the year was down 0.9% year-on-year.

Trading on Futures on Stock Dividends in the first seven months grew 68.3% with a 13.3% increase in the open interest.

Futures on IBEX Impact Dividend also reported an increase in trading, up 102.3% in the first seven months of the year with the open interest standing at 23,888 contracts, up 25.3% year-on-year.

Corporate Debt

The trading volume on the Fixed Income Market in July came in at €8.4 billion, down 74% compared to July 2015. In the first seven months of the year the trading volume totaled €107.5 billion, down 70% from the same period a year earlier, the main reason for this being the lower trading activity in repos.

The volume of new issues on the Corporate Debt market in July reached €6.4 billion in July, down 44% year-on-year. To the end of July the volume of new issues totaled €90.8 billion, down 7% from the same period a year earlier.

The volume of new issues on MARF in July was €243 million, 150% higher than last year while it totalled €1.2 billion in the first seven months of the year, up 170% year-on-year.

In July trading on BME’s Public Debt wholesale electronic platform, SENAF, reached €10.4 billion, up 39% from the same month in 2015 while in the first seven months of the year the trading volume totaled €99.4 billion, 75% higher than in the same period last year.
