The Spanish stock Exchange traded €80.9 bn. in February, up 59 % year on year

The best month of February in the last seven years 

  • Accumulated volumes in January and February reached €174.7 billion, up 39%
  • The trading volume in the Warrants and Certificates market was up 91% in February.
  • The trading volume in the Derivatives market in February grew 3% from January.
  • Corporate Debt trading reached €54.9 billion in February, down 61.8% year on year, though the trading to maturity grows.

Equities 

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in February was €80.9 billion, up 59% year on year, representing the best month of February since 2008. Accumulated volumes in the first two months of 2015 have reached €147.7 billion, up 39% year on year.

The number of trades reached 5.3 million, up 0.4% from the same month a year earlier, while accumulated trades to February reached 12.2 million, down 3% year on year.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in February came in at €983.5 million, up 9% from the same month a year earlier. The trading volume in the first two months of 2014 in this segment came in at €1.9 billion, down 3% from a year earlier. 

The trading volume on the Warrants and Certificates market in the first two months of 2015, reached €220.1 million, up 65% year-on-year. The trading volume in February in this market reached €110.7 million, up 91% from February 2014. 

Futures and Options

Trading volume in February has reached 3.6 million contracts, up 3% year-on-year. It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Index Futures, with 539,778 IBEX 35 Futures contracts and 250,267 Mini IBEX Futures contracts traded, up 7.5% and 20% year-on-year respectively. In addition to this, the open interest on IBEX 35 Futures increased in February to 701,861 contracts, up 26.5% on the year.

Trading in Options on Stocks in January experiences a slight descent, down 2% year-on-year, to 1,433,270 contracts. 

It is worth mentioning the sharp increase on the open interest position of IBEX 35 Futures, up 22% year on year, to 88,346 contracts. 

Corporate Debt

The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in February came in at €54.9 billion, down 61.8% year on year, though 28.5 billion correspond to trading to maturity, up 1.8% 

The trading volume on the SEND electronic trading platform reached €117 million, 48 of which correspond to Public Debt trading, more than double the amount posted in the same month 2014.
