Equities
The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in the first five months of 2016 came in at €323.8 billion, down 25.3% year-on-year. The trading volume in May totaled €48.3 billion, down 42.7% from the same month in 2015, following the general tendency of low trading volumes in all markets, particularly in the European ones.
The number of trades to May reached 24.1 million, down 13.1% from the same period the previous year. The number of trades in May reached 3.9 million, down 9.9% from a year earlier.
As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of May came in at €3.08 billion, down 42.4% from the same period a year earlier. The ETF trading volume in May in this segment came in at €303 million.
The number of ETF trades to the end of May totaled 72,572, up 4.9% year-on-year. In May the number of trades was 10,433.
The trading volume on the Warrants and Certificates market to the end of May reached €319.6 million, down 40% year-on-year. In May, the trading volume reached €55.6 million, down 40.1% from the same month in 2015.
Futures and Options
In the first five months of the year the trading in the main contracts, that is, Index Futures, has experienced a slight decrease in activity. There were 3 million contracts traded in IBEX 35 Futures and 1.2 million in Mini IBEX Futures, with respective decreases of 1% and 2.8% year-on-year.
Up to May trading in the Derivatives market decreased compared to the same period of 2015, reaching 17.4 million contracts traded.
In May trading in Stock Options has increased compared to the previous month. In IBEX 35 Options trading came in at 180,305 and trading in Stock Options came in at 1,425,803 contracts, up 2.66% and 7.50%, respectively. Trading on Futures on Stock Dividends keeps growing, up to 107.63% and experiences an increase of 16.49% in the open interest.
Futures on IBEX Impact Dividend maintain their positive evolution, with an increase in trading up to 39.15% in the first five months of the year, and an open interest of 21,793 contracts traded, up 11.56% year-on-year.
Corporate Debt
The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in April came in at €13.4 billion, down 76.7% compared to May 2015, but up 12.5% in relation to the previous month. In the first five months of the year it totaled €83.3 billion.
The volume of new issues was €7.4 million in May, down 7.9% compared to the same month of the previous year, and reaching €68.7 million in the first five months of 2016, down 10.4% year-on-year.
The volume of new issues on MARF reached €166 million. In the first five months of the year new issues in this market more than doubled the volumes registered year-on-year.
In May trading on BME’s Public Debt wholesale electronic platform, SENAF, reached €17.7 billion, up 188.4% the amount reported for the same period last year while in the first five months of the year the trading volume totaled €69.7 billion, 69.2% higher than in the same period last year.
